Science can be such a drag

… so let's put some rhinestones on it and make it a party! ✨

Science is a Drag is the world’s first and longest running fully science-themed drag show. We elevate science communication through the powerful art of drag. From burlesque performances of DNA extractions to raising climate crisis awareness through fiery costume reveals, we create engaging and unforgettable science experiences.

Our flagship annual show in Toronto features a lineup of performers ranging from seasoned drag artists to first-timers alike, trained in both drag and science communication by our expert production team. Our performers don’t just entertain, they educate, inspire, and leave a lasting impression.

By and for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities

Science is a Drag is by and for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, empowering scientists and communicators to bring us queer and intersectional science communication. The connections formed at our shows help people feel less alone in their experiences and build community to mobilize the changes needed in STEM and beyond.

Let’s build a world where we can share our work unapologetically.

We’re just getting started

Now an award-winning global phenomenon, Science is a Drag started as a community-driven event first launched in Toronto in 2019 by scientists Samantha Yammine (aka Science Sam), Shawn Hercules and Geith Maal-Bared alongside Carrie Boyce from production partner RCIScience.

Our team has expanded to include scientist Daniel Celeste, and so is our global footprint. We are currently working with partners around the world to co-produce official Science is a Drag satellite events. If you would like to organize a satellite event in your city, please reach out here.
